"DESOLATION"
^ NEXT | LAST April 2007
I did this for my brother. He's taking a class on the American graphic novel and needed illustrations for a prompt.
He wants to belong. He's spent his whole life apart from everything
else, disconnected from meaning. But now, he resolves, that will
change. I'll make myself belong. I will be a part of life, and life
will be a part of me!
And then, the dreams come. The world falls apart a bit, things make
less and less sense… until he awakens again. He is confused and
disoriented, but he's still alive and determined. And then another
night, another dream. Storms of color, chords of sound, a tempest of
reality. He is awake again, but cannot move. More sleep, more
delirium. Soon, he cannot tell the difference between awake and
asleep. Reality and madness flow from one to the other, and chaos
breaks him open. What good is awake, when all he knows is lights and
sounds without order, without reason? What can save him from despair
if he believes that he is finally a part of what he needs?
