Xan never liked that she was named after her egotistical father, Alexander Bowers, so few people know her full name. Her father was a sub-creation, meaning that his superpowers were given to him through occult science. Alexander is a legendary healer, with several documents cases of complete rival of the recently dead. He lived in Dis, but managed to travel out of the isolated city for many trips to nations in need. He is said to have exhausted himself while saving lives, leaving his wife and two children behind, and Xan will agree with this rumor, although no records or body prove the death.
Traveling outside of Dis is a rarity that few achieve, and none with such infamous frequency as the Bowers family. Because of the long segments of time away from Dis, Xan was held back for several grades, and was eventually put through an education program targeted at immigrants. She received a little education abroad, and retains a very faint British accent from when she had a British tutor.
Xan, whose healing powers are a fraction of her father's famed ability, lives quietly as the gardener and healer for an elderly friend of the family. She shares her two bedroom house in a less urban corner of Dis with her younger friend, Luanne, but the roof has been shared with an assortment of Luanne's flings-of-the-month. Xan's social life is far quieter, and she is content with her friend and their cats, Uriel and Simon. Luanne's flings (and recently, her projects) kept at the house typically annoy her, but she isn't confident enough to defend her ground.
She's never been fond of her name, which she considers a sign of her father's arrogance. Her younger brother, Alexander Junior, was similarly named and similarly is not fond of his name, and goes by Syn. She has "countless" (in her opinion) foster demonkin foster siblings, as her mother opens her house to children disowned for being too demon or not demon enough.
She rarely visits with her brother, mother or foster siblings.
How the Character Came About Xan is based on another Mage character. She was originally very dark and self destructive. She practiced blood magic, and worked at a slaughter house. She was also a lot younger (17-18). The games I wanted to play Xan in kept falling apart, so I came up with little comics and story ideas involving her and her mentor, the violent but happy Luanne.
Whereas Hanna became darker for the comic, Xan became lighter.
I think there are some traces of a much older character, Alexandria, in her (the names are actually a coincidence.... or perhaps a sign that I only have so many names in me). Alexandria was bitter with life, but charged with nurturing and protecting it.
Creator's Nicknames Xannie. That's about it.
